Commenting on the European Commission’s Clean Industrial Deal presented today, Fritz Rudolf Körper, Managing Director of EMPPA, said: ‘This is the right step forward for our European Moulded Pulp Producers. Competitiveness and climate neutrality can only be achieved together for the EU.
It is right to see the circular economy as the key to the industrial competitiveness of the European Union. In order to achieve the goal of becoming the global market leader in the circular economy by 2030, renewable, secondary and circular raw materials such as moulded pulp must be given even greater regulatory support.
The European Commission should send clear signals to the market here in order to accelerate transformation processes. The products of our member companies are purely fibre-based, fully biodegradable and reduce costs for companies and the environment.
The Commission’s idea of promoting domestic industry by introducing ‘Buy European’ requirements for green technologies is right in principle. In order to achieve the general goal of reconciling ecology and economy, we need fibre-based packaging solutions from our industry, concludes Fritz Rudolf Körper.
Background:
On 26 February, the Clean Industrial Deal was presented by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The European Commission’s package of measures is intended to specifically improve the framework conditions for companies in order to strengthen their competitiveness and at the same time achieve the climate targets of the European Green Deal. This will be adopted together with other measures in a so-called omnibus package. Further information can be found here.
